Artisan-Inspired Luxury Tiny Home

Are you as intrigued by the tiny house movement as me? Can you see yourself living in a footprint of 400 square feet? If not, this custom-crafted, luxury tiny home might sway your opinion. It’s designed and built using Lil’ Lodges of Bear Creek, Alabama footprint and was recently featured on the season finale of Tiny House Nation on the FYI network.

Exterior

Here’s a photo of the exterior featuring tongue-and-grooved British Columbia cedar with stacked stone fascia accents, along with a 26 gauge metal roof.  The vaulted, covered porch looks like a nice place to relax.

The total square footage of the home is 600 ft² (400 ft² on the bottom and another 200 ft² in the loft).  It’s built on a steel bed with wheels, so it’s mobile and ready to be delivered to a destination of your choice. Each home is built above code, with 2 x 6 walls, double floor joists every four feet, triple studs in every corner, and double door plates.

This particular home was commissioned by a Long Island family of four whose primary residence is 4,000 ft². They wanted something with a small footprint, to bring family closer together. They asked for a design with the feel of a luxury resort, incorporating a cabin-feel with modern touches. The home will be sited in the rolling hills near Cobleskill, N.Y.

Let’s head inside.

Living Area

The reclaimed barnwood, vaulted ceiling makes the living area feel so spacious.  Check out the stacked stone Napoleon fireplace.  Such a nice focal point.  So much natural light pours into the space from the side windows (behind the sofa) and the double doors leading to the porch.

Kitchen

The kitchen features the same reclaimed barnwood ceiling, and a telescoping Goliath table that expands to 115 inches and accommodates 10 people. There’s sufficient space for high-end, stainless steel appliances. The window and tile backsplash is unique; a great way to get light into this space.

At the other end of the kitchen, you can see the entrance to the bathroom on the left and one of three sleeping spaces on the right. The stairs to the loft are to the left of the storage bins. Although there’s a lot of wood used in the kitchen, there’s a set of sliding glass doors to the right of the dining table, opening the space to the outdoors and letting in tons of light.

The home’s also equipped with the Pyng home automation system from Creston that’s wifi enabled to remotely turn on appliances, open doors, dim lights, and raise blinds – all from a Smartphone anywhere in the U.S. It’s a first for a tiny home.

Bathroom

The bathroom features a $5,000 incinerating toilet from Europe that eliminates the need for a septic system. Now, I’ve heard of composting toilets, but an incinerating toilet? Talk about being on the hot seat!

There’s also a steam-generated shower from Thermasol, another first in a tiny home.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom features the same barnwood ceiling and seems very spacious. I’m pretty sure there’s built-in storage in the wooden structures flanking the window? They look similar to the kitchen cabinets.

Loft

The loft area features two sleeping spaces.  It’s difficult to gauge the ceiling height in these photos, but from the windows, I’m guessing its 4-5 ft in the center, vaulted area. Also, not sure if these are two distinct rooms or one large room. Perhaps its one large room and the canopies above the beds are on a pulley system for privacy.

The space behind the bed in the top photo is for loft access and storage. There is also built-in storage under the beds as seen in the photo below.

So, let me pose the question again, “can you see yourself living in a tiny home?”

I’m blown-away by the quality that’s built into this home. I can definitely see the appeal as a second home, perhaps a lakeside retreat or hunting cabin. Count me in!

Hope you’ve enjoyed the tour.

  1. I hate to break the news to you, however this was Not built by Lil’ Lodges, it was built by HGTV simply using the Lil’ Lodges factory as a shell and it was constructed in Four Days. On the other hand, Lil’ Lodges and its owner, Larry Smith, and potentially the Park Owners who have put people in touch with them, as they receive commissions on their referrals, are the subject of Numerous complaints and lawsuits for Felony False Pretenses, Theft by Deception, Breach of Contract and More. In my own case, I was defrauded of $67,500 and No Work has been done, many months after acknowledging receipt of my wire (that is how they demand payment of a ‘deposit’, and they pressure you to do so), and many months after the promised Delivery Date. In my case, as I was relying not only on the Park Owner’s personal assurances that he would ‘make sure everything was right’, I sold my home, leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars on the table, only to find out that this company is operating a Pyramid scheme and is defrauding people all over the country. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to know Any more information, this has been the debacle of my lifetime, and good luck to anyone in getting any resolution from Lil’ Lodges without Legal Intervention.

      1. Thank you so much Cheri, where things are now is that the entire Alabama Attorney General’s Office Staff of Special Agents, Attorneys, IT people and more are trying to shut the company down. I have a Special Agent assigned to me as well, and will most likely also have to file a Civil suit, unless they resolve matters. This has been the debacle of my life, and has consumed my entire year. All of my documentation of what I say, which is voluminous, has been turned over to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office Special Agent assigned to my case as well as my private Attorney. Thank you again for your concern, Cheri.

    1. Christine,

We placed an order with the company in late January with expected delivery of May. Here we are in mid September with no updates on production. I would love to chat with you about your experience as I am afraid we may find ourselves in a similar situation.
